I spent a couple of days at Norfolk Island.
I went to windward via an A380 [Air NZ]

St Anna .... You ever sailed there ? I'd like to do so. Nice opportunity to a few days offshore and supposedly a nice destination. Anchorage looks a bit bumpy. What did you think ?

Except for the water colour it almost looks west coast-ish...,esp the vegetation.

Beautiful shots!

Andrew... doesn't look like any real good harbours there, kinda reminds me of the Carib's Saba.. Ball bay on the SE corner looks the best of the lot but may be deep... maybe just use the island as a turning mark and go there and back!

Deary me .... I am an idiot ..... in case no one has noticed ..... I'm thinking Lord Howe not Norfolk.

I spent many years flying aircraft to Norfolk Island and can vouch for the beauty of the place.
But I would not want to sail there! The weather is capricious and there are no proper harbours. Even on a good day, you would not want to leave your boat- even if you could get safely ashore. Yachts do occasionally call there, but they never looked to me as if they were very secure.

I spent 4 fantastic days there in early-Nov. 2012, just a few weeks before you!, albeit in very settled weather. We spent the first day in Cascade Bay and then moved around to Ball Bay for the next three. Landing the dinghy was much more difficult there but it was great holding and very minimal swell. I was nervous at first about the weather but I watched carefully for changes and went back to the boat a couple times a day to check on things. The people are so friendly that I never had trouble getting a ride there or back. However, I was a bit surprised by the number of tourists. When weather approached, I bailed for NZ. There are four anchorages, one on each side of the island, and it is possible to move to stay in the lee but I was not interested in being chased around the island. Friday and Staurday nights are very festive with the majority of the locals staying out till all hours!
