Chainplate Inspection w/Rigging Up
 

Hi Folks,

Wonder if any of you have experience removing/inspecting/replacing the chainplate for your aft stay while the rigging is still up. I intend to replace that chainplate on my T37 and would prefer not to take the mast down to do it. How can this be done safely? Should I use a halyard run aft to keep tension on the mast while removing the aft stay?

Any tips or experiences woudl be much appreciated.

Yep...just use the halyard. Or the halyard AND the topping lift if you're stressed about it! (g)

It won't be a problem, unless some serious wind comes along. But you should know, that when only one stay or shroud is removed, it tends to shrink. (jk, but it sure seems that way).

That may be because the hull will "relax" and return towards a pre-stressed shape. So the distances between the fittings at the deck/mast become longer and your shouds will get a bit longer.
