Re: Solomon Islands a must

It's a really cool place. The diving is INSANE with all the wrecks and reefs, etc. And don't forget to try the beetlenut. Nasty.

Re: Solomon Islands a must

Know where you are coming from. Had similar experiences in PNG in the 70s and 80's. Amazing hiking, diving and sailing. Incredible scenery. World War II stuff everywhere. Hardly anybody else there. Lived there from ages three to fourteen. A magical childhood. And beetle nut... good gear with a bit of lime (crushed coral?) and green stuff.

Re: Solomon Islands a must

Good stuff.

shane - that must have been some childhood! Though I traveled all over the Solos - I never got up to PNG (just the northern provinces like Choiseul). I imagine it was very much the same, culturally, but a very different world since the the place is so much bigger. Were you in Moresby?

Re: Solomon Islands a must

Its been a long time since my initial post. My time in the Solomon Islands has been and gone but all of the memories are still there. I ended up finally going to Savo and over to Malaita just prior to my time in the islands finishing. What amazing places.

I will be taking a semi retirement towards the end of next year and hope to make my way back to the Sollies not long after.

I hope you have all been well.

Hey Ozi! Good to see back round!

Glad to hear you made it over to Savo. It is quite a place.
