Sailing a Triton from San pedro CA to Fan francisco
Hello Sailnet people

I am looking for info on sailing the coast of california. I have a Triton located in San Pedro CA and wish to sail it to san francisco. Best harbors, tips, personal stories welcome.

I don't know the Triton, but she better be strong, seaworthy, & be able to sail into heavy weather this time of year. Read 2 years before the mast, and you will understand. In the fall you might motor the whole way........i2f

Although my experience is north of SF I have read LA to SF can also be pretty severe. This is about the worst time of year for that trip. Try this:
for more info. It also covers north of SF, kind of long but worth the time.

Sorry, I forgot this one, better suited to your inquiry, and much shorter:

And here is another one, real - time ocean conditions:

Northern California NOAA/CDIP Buoy Data

It's all uphill and against the current, suggest you talk to as many people who have done it, like Sailboy 21, as you can find.

This is toughest time of the year to do that trip. I did it in a 26' Ericson but it was in the summer. I would worry more about all the fog at this time. It will be cold and wet and you will be doing alot of motoring unless, you go half way to the islands and then tack back in. This is not recommended unless you have a very seaworthy boat. You can harbor hop the way up and there is lot's of info and cruising guides available for more information. I don't know your sailing experience or what shape the boat is in so- can be done and don't think point conception is easy it is not well, aleast for my trip it was not. I anchored at Cojo and left at midnight and it was still a ride I won't forget. Make sure you give the coasties a float plan. I had a great time but I won't say it was easy like the big sur coast with nowhere to anchor and after 36 hours on the tiller I was really tired.:D

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 10:22 PM.
