Re: Stay out of Georgia
"Now I have heard stories of Tow BoatUS claiming salvage when pulling off of sandbars even for those who had coverage, not sure if you are talking about one of these cases? It does seem there may have been a rouge franchisee, but not enough to damn an entire county for bad practices."
Yeah, if you hit just one wrong key, as in 'rouge' as opposed to 'rogue', trolls ridicule. Despicable, and I reckon, after watching this forum for a few months, they are used as stalking feral calf-killing dogs to single out and pull down the thoughtful and principled posters.
I could name names, but I reckon those with their heads down and who live in abject fear of posting the 'wrong thing' already know. The real philosophy of this place is Caligula's.
To your remarks: Aside from legal action, there's always other considerations. let your fertile imagination roam, but not wild.
My posts are not so much stream-of-consciousness as they're allusive, erudite and grounded in history, like those of your American Founders. Doubtless you will complain that they are "very hard to understand" as well. Sad, for what they wrote, their addresses, and their letters, are so full of wisdom.
A series of incidents must damn a place, for when the perps are also a series of persons, then something's rotten in the state of - Manatee County. Why not sit with the older folk in a marina circle sometime soon and get them telling you about the places to avoid. Bring a bottle of the good stuff.

Re: Stay out of Georgia
I always thought the definition of an internet troll was somebody who posted for no good reason other than to make other people react.
It would seem that Enigma0 is quite good at that.
Now where did I see that ignore function ---

Re: Stay out of Georgia
How about helping other people think about cultural and other biases?
If someone actually reacts, that may be a plus. But the usual reactive instinct is FSMike's - censor immediately. A correct thought might get born, not be aborted.

This post is about as useless as sucking farts out of a dead horse.

Well sucking farts out of dead horse is actually very useful. It brings down the bloated belly so you don't have to dig as big of a hole to bury it. Not a fun job but saves time!

There's a device that looks like a hollow awl which is used to relieve a bloated cow (or horse).
But for large dead animals it's just easier to dig the hole (you'll need an excavator unless you're addicted to very hard labour), put in a layer of wood chips or scrub stuff, next shove in the dearly departed, pile on more fuel, pour on much accelerant, and burn all in the hole. Stand up-wind and drink beer until the flames are well down. Then shove over the dirt.
If it was a good horse (and most are far better than their owners), a Viking sort of wake during the fire may be appropriate - music and whatnot.
Forget those who have no honor for anything except their own bellies. They deserve oblivion and no markers.

Florida is hostile, not only to live-aboards but to marina owners/operators. Probably down to greed. Those waterfront locations don't pay nearly as much in taxes as condo and housing developments with canals.
I almost forgot: Stay away from the Manatee County ICW. There are those there who lurk looking for opportunities to 'legally' loot passing boaters.

I found Manatee County a gorgeous and friendly place to cruise. Desoto and Emerson are incredibly dog friendly and people friendly. I will probably be there again this weekend and will certainly stop another time before heading out to the keys. When were you there? We are a VERY tight niche of cruisers here and I have not heard anything bad about it. The only exception is bring your dog ashore on Egmont, which is a big no-no.

Re: Stay out of Georgia
The bad reports are specific to the ICW, from Bradenton Beach to Venice. This was circa 2002 - 2008. The rascal(s) may be gone or in prison. Or yet oppressing, with a rake-off to a local 'authority'.
I don't care for dogs on boats; reckon it's bit cruel to them. Prefer cats or terriers, which are death on rats.

Re: Stay out of Georgia
Cruisers who are not boarded by state officers don't usually post on forums so I don't panic when I cruise in Florida or Georgia. After 20 years of doing so I have been approached twice, once on the St Johns River at night when the battery operated bowlight on my 23 footer had gone out and I couldn't tell from the cockpit, and the other time again at night in Hawk Channel when the US Coast Guard came alongside and inquired where I had been and where I was going. It has really been a pretty hassle free twenty years all the way from Charleston, SC to Clearwater, FL.
Cruisers who have been treated poorly by local authorities are reminders that we live with regulation and although they are rightly vocal they are surely in the minority when compared to the overall boating population.

Re: Stay out of Georgia
Just stay out of the south completely. The whole thing is a sewer. Let them fly their rebel flags and pretend they were a different country and the you treat it as such. I've been all over Georgia and 90 percent of it is a dump. I guess you do have to cross it to get wherever you're going though. Shouldn't take more than a week. Tell them to shove the over three.
Might I recommend New England or the west coast? Sure California not as old as it use to be but it still has the best weather in the world. Or tied.
