Looking for recommendations for stopover along the Italian coast

Not a nice one. On the South you have only marinas not nice places to anchor to the North you have swamps and lowlands (Lagoons) like Venice and then I hope you like mosquitoes (gnats) and muddy waters. In what regards nice towns to visit there are plenty of them.
