Oriental, NC

Hi Everyone~

My wife and I (and our dog) are sailing from Lauderdale to Oriental this coming June. While I've read about the several different Marinas and have stayed at the Oriental Marina right there on the town dock, I'm wondering if you folks might have some cool spots I haven't heard of. I've also spent some time in Whittaker Creek Marina when a friend kept his boat there. River Dunes doesn't allow "Live Aboards" and technically we are living aboard. Oh, and it's a sailing vessel that is 35' LOA and draws 5'. Just thought I'd ask and see if we get some gems. I love hearing from people with their experiences.

Appreciate it.

River Dunes

River Dunes may not allow full time permanent live aboard but you can certainly stop there as a transient guest who's living /staying aboard. It's a really nice facility and worth a visit!

Re: Oriental, NC

Personally, when I want to hang around the area, I go anchor at South River and then go over to Oriental as needed.

Re: Oriental, NC

What? You and Melody won't be summering in the Chesapeake this year, the greatest boating destination in the world?

Re: Oriental, NC

Thanks guys. We'd totally anchor out and may do so but we also work and will be going ashore a bunch during the day. We like to split it up and either hang on a public dock, rent from a private owner or if need be, go into a marina. The marina thing is a last resort of course.

Jim~ We may get up to the Chesapeake at some point. It is truly an amazing body of water and we love ever single bit of it. Oriental has some possible employment options for me and our main goal is to make as much (and save as much) money so we can jump over to the islands next year. I don't think it will be possible for me not to sail on the bay this summer. Especially with the new sails. We'll run into you somewhere!
