Pickup along the East River

I'll be sailing down from Long Island past Manhattan via the East River. I'm planning on picking up a passenger from Manhattan but I can't seem to find any marinas along the way. There is one called the NY Skyports Marina that seems to be closed to ferries or super yachts. While a fueling station would be nice, I'm really just looking for any pier or wharf where I pull alongside and have the guest jump aboard! My only other alternative is to swing around the tip and go to the North Cove Marina on the Hudson River side. I thought there might be a spot near the South Street Seaport but it looks like a restricted area these days.

Good luck on that. I'm sure it IS possible but at North Cove you may be charged a minimum docking fee even for a fast pickup. At South Street their policy was the same thing, you come alongside, you pay. You might have ot buy a gallon of gas at the east side marina to take your guest onboard. Or, aim for one of the seawalls with bullards on the east river and have your guest jump the fence.

Hopefully someone else knows a spot you really can use, but "public access" and NYC waterways are not often found together.

Is there a convenient source of a list of the current restricted areas around Manhattan?

Call Obama and ask him to arrange it so you can use the dock at the U.N. for your passenger pickup! Not! don't even pretend to make landing near the U.N. or you will have a CG escort in a hurry.

I'd forget about North Cove as well. Too small and well policed.

A better bet is less than 1 mile north of there on the Hudson. Just north of the Stuyvesant H.S. building is a small mooring field which is now operated by Liberty Landing marina, which is across the river. They have a new, fairly long dock that you could probably get away with a free "drop & go" transaction. This location is a few blocks west of the Chambers St. #1,2,3 subway station.
I have been dropped off at Chelsea Piers (23rd St.) from a sailboat before without being hassled.
Perhaps the safest bet would be Liberty Landing Marina which does have a fuel dock. Water taxis go there from around North Cove area.

Another option might be the docks in Long Island City.

I've been picked up here as well and while had to duck under a gate we hung out for 20-30 min and weren't bothered.

Depending on wind and tide, heading up from the Battery to Chelsea and then coming back down again could mean two or more hours lost picking up that crew. Still might be easier to buy a gallon of gas on the east river.

I'm thinking Liberty Landing or Newport Marina in Jersey City .. You can get a path train to Jersey City and the marina is right across the street. No Fuel in Newport though. So if you want an all in one stop Probably Liberty.

There's Worlds Fair Marina in Queens as well. It's very convenient by subway from Manhattan.
