Hudson River Croton on Hudson

Any Hudson River Sailors out there?

I'm thinking about sailing/motoring up to Croton on Hudson to check out the Clearwater Festival in June. Looking at the charts and from photos I see on Google Earth..it looks like a good anchorage, but I'm looking for any 1st hand information/ tips etc. Has anyone done this?

We sail out of Nyack, just below Croton Point. People seem to anchor out on the north side of Croton Point as the southern side is pretty shallow. The north side is open to winds from the NW to a degree.
Shh! There is a good anchorage across the river behind what is known as Bowline Point which is more protected from winds and current. Approach from the SE.

Yes, that is the spot. You will probably see a few other boats anchored in there around the time of the Clearwater Festival.
The water level may go up and down a bit from the tide but current and winds should not be a big issue in there. It is a comfy mile or 2 away from Croton and may provide you a more quiet anchorage.
I was told that it used to be a clay pit at one time so there may be some 'hills' or ruts on the bottom. The depth can go from 10' to 20' quickly, or so I was told.

Thanks Caleb...as long as it's got more than 3' 11" at low tide I'm happy..

With 3' 11" you should be good to go. Tidal range is 3' - 4'.
