Are we ok anchoring or should I be making a reservation for a mooring if still available? Any rules/regs we should be aware of
regarding anchoring?
I have always anchored near Edgartown right off of the Chappaquiddick Island beach. It is a sandy bottom and I haven't slipped there.

You should see numerous others anchored there too.

It is a general anchorage, do your standard scope per depth and just watch out for the mega yachts! :-)

Re: Summer 2013 New England SailNet Rendezvous

FYI: "The anchorage is located in the outer harbor to the portside of red nun bouy #8. The Harbormaster may open Katama Bay under some northerly conditions. If Katama Bay is opened then yachts may anchor south of green can #13. Harbormaster can be contacted on VHF channel 74. When the wind changes direction yachts are asked to leave Katama Bay and re-anchor in the outer harbor. Launch service serves the outer anchorage, call "Old Port Launch" on channel VHF 68."

Re: Summer 2013 New England SailNet Rendezvous

Well Sailors, this Rendezvous date is quickly approaching us!

Evelyn and I have been busily preparing for this, and for the rest of our 2 weeks of cruising New England.

We just started stripping the Cetol which the prior owner had painted on the teak deck.
It was turning the polysulfide caulking into a black sticky mess. We're using a product called "Smart Strip" which seems to be doing a great non-invasive job. I am sure we won't have it all done, but at least the heavy traffic areas should be cleaned up.

So, we might have a funny looking deck for the Marthas Vineyard Rendezvous.

Hope to see as many of you folks as possible!

Re: Summer 2013 New England SailNet Rendezvous

I'm still hoping that I can make it. From what I understand, without reading the whole thread, the meet-up is planned for 7/27 on Martha's Vineyard - Edgartown Outer Harbor, next to R N "8" - the area circled in red below;

I hope to see you there!

Yes, we will be anchored somewhere in that area, probably the day before, i.e., the 26th.

Is anyone else bringing kids? Actually, we are still on the fence.

I have not heard anyone else mention anything about children.

Actually, I'd rather be sailing than on a fence.... get off of the fence, you could get hurt on that thing.... :-)

Arrrgh...

The admiral says that we have to be at a Family Reunion on the 27th...

I keep telling everyone that "I am not available during the summer." People keep scheduling stuff anyway...
