Just bought a 1974 Watkins 23 hull #WYM00024674 and am starting to restore it to orignal specs with maybe a few extras Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself - Tampa Florida Area
I have a 1976 Watkins 23 that I have now had for over 25 years. Any questions about the boat let me know as mine is at this point quite overbuilt with most known engineering faults resolved. Lighthouse Point (Ft Lauderdale Area)
I am purchasing a 78? Watkins 23 as my first sailboat. It needs some minor work especially on the rudder. Do you know the wood type of the rudder and it's holder, and is it made of three pieces of wood sandwiched to hold the rudder or one piece?
Watkins 23XL
I just bought my second Watkins within 4 months. I have a 1978 23XL. I am in the process of upgrading my boat. She was in rough shape, with a really bad paint job. I am almost done with the exterior and will redo the interior this winter.

I just bought a 1978 Watkins 23 XL and I'm refitting as well, I live in Orange Park (Just south of Jacksonville); maybe we can trade notes? I need a new mainsail, did the original main have a boltrope or slugs?
My main sail has slugs. I still have to original main and Genoa for my boat. Last week on the Watkins Group I received information that they are making the Johnson sails again. That is what the original sails were on the Watkins.
We repainted our boat with Interlux Perfection paint. We rolled and tipped the paint. It turned out really nice. We are now putting the hardware back on the boat and we are going to change the bulkhead because the surface is cracked on mine. We are also fabricating some racks for the starboard side to hold the "wetbar" and the dishes.
I would suggest you join the Watkins group. It is [ The folks are really great and very helpful.

I would be happy to exchange refit stories with you.
I had a W23 striped down model, no factory finish in the cabin. However the previous owner retro-fitted her with some nice shelves on the starboard side. Mine was also fitted with a bowsprit, so it was a bit confusing. Unfortunately, I had to sell my interest to a partner. That is when I bought the 23xl. If you interested in pictures let me know on the listserv and I will direct you to them.
Thanks to all ref: Watkins 34 mainsail! By the way, I've been repainting the hull with Petit easypoxy paint and one quart more than covers the hull; I'll let you know how it holds up around T-day.
Hello, I have a Helsen 22, I am told that it is very similar to the Watkins 23, Would anyone have an owners manual that they would share, I'm willing to pay
