The One Design is an excellent day sailor. It's sturdy and conveys a feeling of confidence. It's by and large easy to maintain, with a few exceptions. The rudder bearings wear out and the rudder shaft is prone to corrosion and/or failure. Also, the keel bolts are galvanized iron and of a design that require machining as I have been unable to find a replacement source. Fortunately they are externally accessible. The keel is cast iron and requires periodic sandblasting and expoxying to keep from "rusting away".

The rig on my boat is now 23 years old and has been in salt water with an overlay of gulf coast petrochemical airborne "effluents" and so it is time to replace that as well.

But even so, with upgrades and repairs, it is a fraction of the cost a new J-27 or J-80 which are probably most like the One Design in terms of amenities. And even though is a small boat when you say you have a "Pearson" folks nod approvingly. All in all, I'm very happy with with it and recommend it to others.
