The boat was designed late in the life of the IOR and appears to have only a few of the vices of that Rule. For example, no obvious bumps or hollows and waterlines that permit distribution of buoyancy to remain relatively at same place fore and aft when heeled. Extremely solid, very serious offshore gear (full category 1); solid HALL SPARS rig; the boat took 3rd in the Bermuda 1-2 in 1993. Impressive sailing qualities from what I have seen so far - PERF 81 with full 151% overlap and 90 with 120% roller furlers and staysails for shorthanded racing. Also, an extremely pretty and sleek, purposeful looking silhouette. Shorcomings? HAven'st owned it long enough to discover them (acquired in October, 1996) but so far, only regrets that, for cruising urposes, hard for two couples to have real privacy from each other. But, it's hard to have everything, isn't it? Speed, unquestioned bluewater capability and esthetic qualitites, wth most creature comforts were (and are) my main goals, and this she seems to have been built to deliver, and to be capable of continuing to afford, with normal care to (understandably) rather extensive gear and systems. I look forward to putting some serious miles under her keel next season.
