Description: Catalina 38 A Sparkman Stephens design started life as the Yankee 38. Frank Butler bought the mold for the Yankee 38 and with the design team at Catalina produced a limited number of the Catalina 38. A fast racer the 38 was elected as the Congressional Cup boat for 1979. Frank Buttler of Catalina fame took the 38 to the finish line midway through the eighties when production ended with only around 250 boats being built. Today the Catalina 38 is still a fast contender and is well respected for its good sea abuility and fast sailing. Competive in all areas this classic beauty is a true IOR blue water class boat and should be a great value as a racer or fast cruiser with its enclosed head and roomy interior. Her 6'9"deep draft limits her to deeper ports very few were shol draft. Prices range from $39.000-$54.000 average.

Pros: The boat is a fast racer and great cruser,
Cons: none

For her size she is a great blue water boat that you can count on, below deck is very roomy and comfortable. The price range could not be better, plus you get a lot of boat for your money. If you are wanting to get into racing this is the one to start with, plus she is a very fast contender to this day. You can race on the week end, and cruise as long as you want, in complete safety. This Catalina 38 is well respected for her sea keeping abilities, so yes if you come across one of these beauties take her for a sail.

Pros: fast is always nice when cruising, out sail some storms
Cons: seems like they could have more room for a 38 footer.
