I installed a Johnson Ultima switch a few years ago. Has worked fine. I like that it is completely sealed with no moving parts. And with an external switch, you can easily test it and wire it up for manual as well as automatic operation.
Those seem to make all the sense in the world, but I had one of them fail too. Also the Whale version of it. One of the two actually has the wires exit beneath the level of the water that activates the switch, so the water tight seal is being tested 24/7. I assume that's what failed. In any event, it stopped working.
