Re: Golden Gate entrance

I transit the Gate about once a year. Almost always head directly to or from the South Entrance to the bar. it's about a couple of miles offshore of the Golden Gate Park. Always do it around slack water with small swells forecast. No problems so far, but it always does feel a little "weird" there because of what the water is doing against the bottom. The patch near Point Lobos, however, is consistently like being in a giant jeweler's cleaning tank. 15 minutes of whoa, can't wait to get out of here. Respect the bar, it can get real nasty. Don't even attempt it in rough conditions. Go all the way out to the entrance of the ship channel if you have no choice.
