Take this with a grain of salt. I remember helping take a rudder off an IP-38 years ago. It SEEMS like it was fastened to the hull with what appeared to be "too small" 1/4-20 bolts. The rudder had become unshipped in a grounding. At the time, I was close to buying an IP-35, but someone beat me to it. I needed another boat like a hole in the head anyway. But that was the area on the IP that, to me, was of most concern. A relatively easily unshipped rudder and not a lot of meat in those 1/4 20 bolts.
Thanks for the input. I will definitely take a close look at the rudder when I pull her out.
