While all that may be true, this particular boat was subject to a hurricane Michael boat pileup on shore and the rudder was undamaged, as verified by several above and under water inspections as well as subsequent 150 nm trip in the Gulf. The rudder and worm gear steering are really beefy. But I will be inspecting it very closely when I pull the boat out of the water.
For what it was worth, when we were investigating the repairs to the boat I mentioned above, the consensus was that the worm gear was pretty beefy, but that the rudder post and bottom plate were not particularly all that robust.
