We get a few shells on the boat, but there is a rocky beach nearby that is much better for cracking shells, so I suspect that is where they do that. The seagulls around here are big, and they often choke down whole starfish. They then perch on spreaders and drop their gritty, purple tinted loads on the decks.

The otters are the bigger problem on the docks themselves. They climb out of the water and crap everywhere. If you are not careful they will take up residence in the cockpits of boats or on the transom under winter covers. A winter's worth of otter poop is a fine mess to clean up in Spring!
