Re: San Diego

A slip at a yacht club, while cheap, will take a very long time. You must become a member and because slips are cheap they turn over slowly. When I upgraded my 42 foot to a 50 foot boat I lost my slip at SDYC of which I've been a member since 1978 and have been waiting 5 years for a slip. A little secret. Go to the marinas in person towards the end of the month and inquire about a slip. Many won't pull out the waiting list. Another trick is to get a broker involved. In my marina dozens of slips are rented by boats sold by our local broker. Chula Vista almost always has slips and although out of the main stream I've heard good things about it. If you work in Del Mar, good luck with your commute. Coming up the 5 in the morning will age you quickly. If you are going to be a live aboard that could be a big problem.
