I would look for a remanufactured engine over a rebuild. Yanmar 2gm20 would probably be a good fit and they are available through Yanmar Reman. You can also look at Diesel Engine Trader to see what's available through them. Either way you would be in the $4500-$5500 range.The Bristol 30 is probably too big for an outboard to function properly but if it's just a day sailor you could probably get by with a 15 horse outboard. The 9.9 high thrust might work for getting in and out of a slip but would be under powered for much else. I did see an article in one of the sailing magazines several years back about a fellow who built an outboard well in the cockpit of a boat similar to the Bristol but I don't recall what the reasoning of it was. Seemed to me to be too much work for too little benefit.
