Re: Prep a 36' boat for land transport

no need to empty the tanks, winterize so nothing freezes. Pad and duct tape anything that can move or flap in the wind. leave all covers off or they will flog and beat against the boat.. wind speeds could be 90 MPH when they are doing 60 mph down hill into a 30 mph headwind. take every thing that is loose off the mast, all rigging. if you can mot remove the rigging wind it up and duct tightly to the mast. Most boat transports will put the mast down low on the side of their trailer with the boom. make sure they pad their straps and they lead away from the boat so they don't vibrate in the wind and wear away the paint or gelcoat. do not tie down by using the cleats. Transport companies insurance does not cover your boat if hit by someone in an accident. you can buy separate insurance coverage in case of an accident during the trip for little money.
