My I/C is an ancient Freedom 10. It just has the single output cable which is why it is connected to the battery switch. I'm probably due for an upgrade.
WADR, nonsense. I have an "ancient" Freedom 15 that I installed in 1998. There is no way in hell I'd tie it into the 1-2-B switch. That is NOT what the instructions say to do. You need BIG 2/0 cables from the I/C to the house bank. Period. Nowhere near the switch. You are very lucky you haven't had problems. Big problems.
You don't need an upgrade, you simply need to wire it properly.

I installed a Yandina combiner, too.
