On my H16, we would rake the sail forward for power in lighter to medium winds - depending on weight. Raking the sail to the stern would allow better pointing and de-power the sail.
Often we made changes while sailing as the conditions varied.
The rake of the sail also had a lot to do with weather helm and the "best" position would depend on the weight we were carrying.
