I would start with a local Coast Guard Auxiliary course. You can find one around here almost any weekend. Then crewing on someone else's boat is probably a good idea. I have also taken lessons (and chartered boats) from sailingflorida.com and can recommend them. They are located in St. Pete, at the Vinoy Renaissance marina.
