Hi from a newbie in the uk

Hi to all
so im a 37 year old guy who has never sailed on anything other than ferry and my mates boat in france 12 years ago, and i dont remember much of that because it was more of a floating party fact is im board and fancey making a break for the seas,.
so im about to commit to buying a ferrocement boat of off my freinds dad, poor old guy is not in the best of health and he cant go sailing on his own anymore, the boat is out of the water at the moment, due to the fact that he could not see the point in paying the marine charges anymore, the boat is expensive but i can pay for it over a period of time, so i wont feel the full force of a 50k out lay, i also have the added advantage of being able to put my own touch's on it as it is currently standing out side his house on a privet estate + he isnt in a rush to see the back of it.
Thing is i cant help thinking that im going a bit big, a bit quick, its a 38 foot twin keel F/C it has a 45 foot wooden mast, all new rigging and sails and the perkins diesel only has 180 hours onit, i know there are F/C boats out there, that are a lot cheaper, but this one is a perler, everything that has been done on it is of the best quality, and nothing was second hand, he has recipts for everything.
has anyone else on here, jumped in at the deep end like this! and how did you get on with the sailing? am i making the bigest mistake of my life!
All the best,
Ant
