Exclamation Slight Rule Change! Editing posts limited to 7 Days. Trial

Hi Folks,

We have implemented a slight rule change that should not affect you or the way you post.

Until now you have been able to Edit your post at any time in the future.

From now you can edit it, or delete, for up to 7 days.

Basically, most editing is to fix typos, formatting etc. and most people do the edit immediately or within a day or so. Giving 7 days just in case you miss seeing the error.

If you miss the 7 day window and you really want something fixed the Mods will look at it for you (If you get me drunk)

This is on a trial basis in case we have some unforeseen problem.

Any comments you can whack 'em here, or PM me or any of the Mods

Fine with me , other sites are like that too . I have a question , sometimes in a post that I write I would like to copy and paste a picture . Like the other day I was trying to paste a picture from Amazon and couldn't do it . I thought maybe a copy right block or something so just for a test I tried to paste the same thing on another site and it worked . Stop by the boat and we will get drunk .

Yep, can be a tricky bit... they often dont like Hot Linking form another site.
Make sure you have copied the correct image address. I normally open the image in another tab so there is only that image there. Then I check the URL ends in .jpg If so I copy that line and put it in the Image diologue box.

However, often with Amazon you are not able to get to the raw image because its processed as a visual loop or a zoomable feature. That then becomes tricky. Try to find a smaller thumbnail and use that.

Re: Slight Rule Change! Editing posts limited to 7 Days. Trial

Seems like a bit of a step back in time to me.

Facebook Groups gives the poster really good control over their posts. A thread starter can go back years later and nuke an entire thread and every post in it. Which may not be what the forum owners want, but it encourages posting, especially of videos and images.

This move seems like it will encourage people to post on FB Groups and other more modern formats.

I already see folks make 1 or 2 posts here or one of the two competitors, get totally shredded by the resident curmudgeons, disappear from the old format forums and reappear on FB Groups as much happier campers.

No harm in trying something different I guess though, even if it is a bit of a dated way of doing things...

Okay Mark so this is awkward....I think there is a typo.... (Should read affect not effect).

Please make sure you change it within 7 days or you would have to try and get the MODS to do it and those guys can be a complete PITA

I donít have any particular problem or concern about this change. Iím quite sure Iíve never edited any of my posts past perhaps a day. To be honest, I didnít know we had unlimited time to edit.

But I just have one question: Why? Why make the change? What is the problem that is being addressed?

I agree don't see what this is solving. I usually see my typos when I reread it and maybe regret something I said when I am sober the next morning and edit as needed.

Maybe Mark has a point things should be preserved for posterity.

Dear Chall, please re-read my post and you will see I correctly used the word "affect". Where do you get the idea I wrote "effect". You must be deluded or drunk. Or both!
