Gary, you are so right. I actually just had melanoma removed from my right forearm. Thank God we get checked every year because this cancer popped up within 6 months of my last appointment. I caught it At the earliest stages so only surgery was needed but it is a HUGE scar for such a tiny spot. Good news is, I am cancer free for catching it early.
All sailors, GET CHECKED!

Re: Going Topless??!

We actually went to the degree of getting a Bimini, and a transition to the dodger, so that I could be out of the sun. I've had a bunch of basil cells removed. My wife wants me to keep out of the sun as much as possible.

I attached (edited) a thumbnail to show the canvass after I looked at TakeFive's picture! Thought you might get a laugh. We look the same!

Re: Going Topless??!

For our current boat, my wife’s absolute requirement (which I fully agreed with) was a fully covered cockpit.

Re: Going Topless??!

Cara, count your blessings. Back in the 1960s and 70s, when I worked in medicine, melanoma carried a 95 percent mortality rate if not detected within the first few months. Today, people are much more aware of various skin cancers, and early detection accounts for the decreased mortality rate.

Good luck,

Gary
