Go to the French islands. No one cares. Or go to any waterless island. Itís likely youíll be alone so it doesnít matter. Will tell you my wife passes the pencil test. If you stay topless for awhile just living your life the tan lines are funny looking.

The pencil test is still cracking me up. I love that you know what that is!

Only dumb-asses go topless, men and women. Good way to get melanoma, which is one of the most deadly forms of cancer that I know of. I have lost a couple family members and a few close friends to melanoma, and they all died a horrible death.

Re: Going Topless??!

I don't see that it matters... as long as you follow community standards if there is one. For French femmes it is de rigeur. American's have a boob obsession... it's a bit weird.

Re: Going Topless??!

I'm sure I'll be criticized for this, but I'll speak my mind anyway:

Cara, we are not the target demographic of your blog/vlog. You're looking for the landlocked guy in Arkansas, living a life of quiet desperation in his cubicle who dreams of doing what we're doing. He's watching Delos and La Vagabonde on Youtube. Your most productive demographic is people who are NOT sailing.

Most of us here actually sail and enjoy the same experiences and lifestyle that you are advertising. For us, there is very little new or exciting in what you are doing so using this forum to pimp your blog is largely a waste of time and frankly, annoying. Youtube is already saturated with scantily clad cruising couples vlogging away, attempting to monetize their never-ending vacations by flashing titillating glimpses of heavily censored skin while doing very little sailing and far too much talking and dramatizing. (Yawn)

While I'm certain that there are a few men on this forum who will happily sit on the edges of their seats, hoping to see your thigh or that brief glimpse of side-boob, I'm not one of them and I suspect not very many, and I'll also wager that the female skippers/owners here are not very interested either.

Yeah, yeah I know- No one is forcing me to click on your posts or blog, so why don't I just move on? Now that I've said my piece, I'll share some photos of some of us actually sailing instead of peddling soft porn at anchor (which is just boring) and then I'll go away.

There is certainly some wisdom in this. I have been there done that and I don't watch porn soft or hard. I don't wish to support people who are out cruising. No one supported me but me. But if there are people who will pay for their content... it's worth some effort. As they say there is a sucker born every minute.

I do think it is a very good idea for sailors/cruisers to document their sailing experiences and share with family and friends... certainly people who would not pay to view it Before the www and digital media everyone took film snaps and either made a scrap book or just shared them with people face to face who were interested in the sailing experience. I DO take phone pics and post them to my FB or send them to people I know. Because of the www I don't have to have a face to face meeting to share my experiences with family and friends. I have no NEED to share any aspect of my life with strangers. My wife actually considers it a bad idea... an invasion of privacy and an invitation for trouble.

Then we now have a generation who do their own casting... vlogs... and have subscribers. Some of the content is interesting... lots of it is not (to me). Wife has different tastes and she casts to the tele and I sometimes watch... vlogs about thrifting, fashion travl and so forth. I actually like watching Justine Leconte a french fashion blogger something I would never have found on my own. Justine does not ask people for money... It seems only the people who don't have a job and live on a boat cruising seem to be doing this a lot... copy cat style. Cruising is NOT about making videos for 99.999% of the sailors. Most have a cruising kitty or are not out there obviously. Some find work along the way.

Sure noobs have questions and it's OK to post them here. But self promotion is unseemly and a turn off. Few vloggers are members here I suspect.

Over 5 decades out in the sun unprotected, and most of it tropical, and the cancer I've got is where the sun don't never shine. Go Figure.
On a good note though, the optometrist says I've got 20/20 20/40 eyesight for distance, the same as I had as a teen! Not even the slightest sign of glaucoma or cataracts or any other eye problems. But I am getting my first pair of reading glasses this week, at 71.

Re: Going Topless??!

Agree with both Gary and Alexís quite different points. As someone with Celtic blood, I never go topless in the sun. Heck, Iím rarely out of long pants and shirts in the hottest of days, and NEVER without a wide brimmed hat.

And thanks for the somewhat tough, but clear post Alex. I hope they will heed your advice. Iím perfectly fine with people trying to monetize their adventures. Good on you if you can make it pay. Just donít use these actual sailing and cruising spaces to flog your underwares

If you want to use tools like Sailnet to get the word out about your blog, then become a serious contributing member here. Like any other commercial member, the good ones are people who actually contribute to the community, not just drop clickbait.

Re: Going Topless??!

I was going topless a few weeks ago when it was hot. I would post pictures, but get the feeling too many here couldnít handle it!
