Thanks contrarian.

Not hell bent, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a small issue that I was making into a bigger one. I wouldn't dream of a survey before I really understand what's going on, and at this point it is very sketchy.

It seems to be a common Pearson issue, at least half a dozen cases I've found.

Maybe some of the past owners that I PM'd can shed some light.

Been reading the old links.
It seems to be something they all have.
The hint with a ground plate sounds likely. Does the thru-hulls have wires attached to them?

I agree. Not sure if the thru-hulls are connected, I'll need to look at that when I'm at the boat next.

Definitely not a deal-killer at this point, but it would be nice to know what's going on before springing for a full survey. Since is seems to be a common issue with this boat, a call to an experienced surveyor may reveal what it is and if it should be a major concern.

Following the advice given in previous discussions about the abilities of many surveyors, I would be very wary about letting a stranger decide what is a serious problem and what is more minor in nature.

Yeah I completely agree.

It turns out a buyer who will own the boat for many years has much more of a vested interest versus a person on a very short term job. It seems there is little to no recourse if problems crop up after survey/purchase of the vessel.

It also suprises me that people will spend a huge amount of time finding the perfect boat, and almost none on how it functions.
