More boats comming on market soon

I have heard that after memorial day a lot of new boats are listed.

Does that sound right to you?

The lesson from the Icarus story is not about human failing.
It is a lesson about the limitations of wax as an adhesive.
If you have an engineering problem solve it.

No it doesn't...In my experience, boats come on the market after the first cold day of the fall at a discounted price and they come on the market on the first warm day of spring at higher prices.
By memorial day, the cleanest boats are under contract so that the buyer can use them from the maximum length season.

I agree with Jeff on this one, with a clarification. Many new boats pop up, it's just that as Jeff states, they will be generally higher priced than in the fall, at least up here in the northern climes of the US.

This just popped up on my Craigslist search feed...probably one good one can be found in the bunch, for a pretty good price in the Chicagoland area...

I agree with the Fall v Spring dynamic. I have heard of folks pulling a winter listing for a month or so, so their new higher listing is disassociated.

Re: More boats comming on market soon

I found this boat in August (2009), and after I'd seen her when it came down to money, I not quite kindly mentioned that if he didn't sell it to me right now he would be stuck with storage and insurance for the upcoming NY winter. Among other things, it was definitely a motivator for a quick and much-reduced sale price.

Well, it's not as though folks were lining up around the block to buy boats in Aug 2009.
I was literally his only chance to sell the boat for a good while, and he knew it.

Re: More boats comming on market soon

Labor Day ? I suppose that could be a possibility . We bought our first boat (O'Day 23) on a mid winter day in a light mist , we were a exception to the rule . For us though , after Labor Day marks the days that our favorite destination opens up to old timers like us .
Catalina , Avalon .
