If you are a reader, I suggest: "Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere," by John Vigor.

The thing I like about it is Vigor gives each boat in the book a rating for seaworthiness. While it sounds like you are a 20-mile radius sailor, should you decided to take a trip to Florida, you might want more than what you are looking for.

Re: Buying a small cruiser!

Hi George- I'm pretty new to Sailnet or would have messaged you directly. I currently have a Catalina 27 in Berkeley but am looking for a 34 or 36 in the Bay Area to take down to Baja. There are a few on yachtworld but none in very good shape or outfitted for cruising. Any chance you know of anybody in the Bay Area who is thinking about selling?

Thanks!

Even among "furniture boats" there are boats that sail nicely and there are boats that sail like pigs. You don't need to go as spartan as a J109 to get good performance!

Re: Buying a small cruiser!

Cap'n O,

there is a lovely Catalina 36 for sale in Santa Cruz. "Diver Down". It's a lovely boat for $40 K. It's listed on Kennsigton Yachts. https://www.yachtworld.com/core/list...wo=kensington&

I've been aboard, and she looks to be in good shape.

You are right, that is quite a nicely finished interior. I think perhaps I was envisioning a J105 interior when I made that comment...
