Cal 21 Keel question

Hello,
The winch for my cal 21 keel has a chain on it. When trailered there is a D shackle attaching the chain to the keel. Once it's in the water and the keel lowered how do I release the chain to remove the winch and better yet how would I reattach it? The chain is bolted to the winch.

Re: Cal 21 Keel question

Do not know if this is much help, but I have the original owners manual from 1969. This is what Lapworth has to say. Note paragraph 4.

Re: Cal 21 Keel question

Arcb,
Thanks for the response. Don't know how the chain was originally hooked to the keel but mine is connected with a D shackle. I think i have figured out how to detach it now. Will find out for sure today when we go out on the lake.

Re: Cal 21 Keel question

This is what mine looks like, no shackle, just a big eye. Think the shackles weight might work against you.

Re: Cal 21 Keel question

Thanks,
Mine doesn't have a hook on it.
How would you reattach the line when the keel is down?
