Re: 2016 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

The temperature is still lower than my age - too damned cold for me to enjoy sailing.

Suns comming out. Birds chirping . Looks like a good start to the weekend. Heading up the Chester to either Corsica or Langford . Tomorrow looks like an awesome Mothers Day with plenty of wind.

I'm anchored in Dunn Cove in the Choptank. Positioned to sail south with the blow from the north tomorrow. No swordfish for me, just burgers and beer.

Anchored behind Wash Point , Corsica River . Enough wind to sail today beautiful skies. We have the nave to ourselves . Jorge we are having burgers too (bison), potato salad and grilled asparagus. Tomorrow looks like a good sail too.

Look for the bald eagles in the Sycamores lining Dunn Cove

Passing between Cape Henlopen and Cape May. Not the Chesapeake but we're sailing!

Re: 2016 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Great sail back to port out the Chester River on two tacks then beam reach with a reefed main and jib. Still doing over7.5 knots. Winds steady 15 gusts to 25. Hazy in the afternoon. Weatherman said fire in Canada contributing. Smelled a little like burnt wood. Perfect weekend out.

Home to celebrate our anniversary

Upcoming week looks like wet again.

Re: 2016 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Happy Anniversary Dave! I sailed with one reef in the main. Coming out of the Choptank on a close reach then once out a broad reach. Reaching 9 kts at times. Raised the mizzen to try and squeeze another knot but the boat was out of contro trying to round up, too much sail aft of CE. Lowered the mizzen and everything was back under control. Sailed into the Potomac, close hauling. Anchored in the Coan River. Could not sail to the Maryland shore.
