Rock Hall Canvas Works

Does anyone know if this business still exists? I hired him to replace my bimini and dodger, and gave him my framework and a deposit. The last communication I have from him was more than a month ago, and now he will not return phone calls, emails or texts. The completion date was to be early May. It's a 3 hour drive, so I was hoping someone in the Rock Hall area had local information.

If he has/had an actual retail/shop address, you might want to google and find a neighbor biz...then call them and see if he's open or closed, etc.
Just a thought...

Give John Wilson at Rock Hall Marine Consignment at (410) 928-7667 a call. If the canvas business shares the building, he might know.

Was just there and was open. The owner of both the consignment and canvas works is owned by the same person..a John Wilson

Yea and on a side note..it's one of my MAJOR pet peeves that a contractor, a supposed Professional, not return emails or phone calls...and someone on this list forum knows whom I'm talking about.............enuf said

Re: Rock Hall Canvas Works

John did finally get back to me and we are both working on a resolution for my canvas project. This is my 3rd canvas company. The first one promised me several times he would come out and measure the boat but never did. And his office was literally 150 yards from the boat. The second company I used, for some simple dodger repair, took 5 months. And he only returned my calls after many emails and messages. I know chef2sail would recommend just buying my own sewing machine, but I would just end up sewing my fingers into my project!

Re: Rock Hall Canvas Works

Well, you are one step ahead of me, I can't even get a shop to take my project...... Seems every shop I call has a six months backup..... So we went out and bought a 40 yr. old sewing machine... I haven't quite mastered it yet, but did manage to re-stitch our jib cover. With a bit more practice I will tackle the mainsail cover. Seems like its going to take six months either way.....

I am not the seamstress my wife is. She has taught me some basic stuff, but the. Hard pieces like a dodger I leave to her. She understands the fine stuff."

Re: Rock Hall Canvas Works

I had contracted with John Wilson from Rock Hall canvas. It took 4 months to get my bimini, and I have NOT received any call back or email back regarding my dodger. It took numerous emails and phone calls to get my bimini on time, none of which were returned no sooner than 1 week. This is going on 6 months. I am intensely frustrated by this process. My boat is in Rock Hall, so this is very convenient. I chose to support local, and it was a mistake. There is another canvas maker, Victoria, in the area. I actually saw her working on a boat in my marina at 6 am because the client was sailing out, and she wanted them to have their canvas. Very impressive!!!

Re: Rock Hall Canvas Works

I just replaced all my canvas (steering pedestal, main sail cover, bimini, shade curtains, dodger, hatch covers, life line covers) and used Annapolis Canvas: ANNAPOLIS CUSTOM YACHT CANVAS - HOME

They were responsive and fairly timely - not cheap, but not drastically more than any other person I contacted. Granted, like you said, some never emailed me back so I might have been able to get a better deal. I just prefer giving my money to someone who seems like they want it.

They have done several canvas jobs at our marina and everyone has been satisfied. They will even come back to make adjustments if things aren't just right.

The project was probably 4-5 months in the making, but I started last fall so they had all winter to work on it.
