Ok Chef, here's the more-or-less finished product.

It's installed, it's varnished and the trim is done.

This next picture is my justification for accepting my own imperfections. This is a photo of a cabin trim joint installed at the factory. As you can see, it's offset and not a perfect fit. If Tartan ain't perfect, then there's no way that I'll be perfect with my limited wood working experience.

Iím going to start heading north next month. When is the start of nice non freezing minimum long pants season for the Chesapeake?

Don't blow air up my rear, be useful and blow it at the sails!

Warmth arrived early this year...accompanied by a lot of moisture. 3 weekends of rain in a row and next weekend might rain, too.
Temperatures have not hit freezing in a couple of weeks. Problem is, this is Maryland where weather is crazy. We could experience another dip in temperatures.
Right now, highs are in the low 60's/high 50's and lows are in the high 30's/low 40's.

I suppose by the time you get here, you'll be ok.

Here's the value of sailing on January 1st:

In 2017 I went sailing on New Year's day. In April and May I enjoyed working on an interior renovation on my boat. In June we unexpectedly started the purchase and sale of homes, for an unplanned but long talked about relocation (same region, same job). This process, involving lots of work and maintenance, lasted though December!

So if not for the New Year's sail I would have to live with the fact that I had gone a whole calendar year without sailing!

Now in 2018 I'm looking forward to new sailing grounds in Southern Maryland.

Um... I hate to bring this up but Gary hasn't logged on to the site in 3 weeks. Does anyone have any information?
I don't want to jump to any conclusions.

Is Gary Diamond his real name, or just a stage name?

Just got off the phone with Gary, (found his number online) he's been off the internet for a couple weeks busy with other stuff. He is still ill but also still thinking about sailing round DelMarVa this season.
I told him folks were asking about him online, wouldn't be surprised if he shows up here soon.

I was hoping that he was busy with his boat, rather than any number of unpleasant alternatives. His extended silence was uncharacteristic.
