Re: 2018 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

This coming weekend looks like it could be the first sail of 2018 on the Chesapeake for Windgeist. Fingers crossed.

Re: 2018 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Looking like a late Saturday start at best. Forecast 25 - 30 with gust 50 - 60 Friday into Saturday diminishing later Saturday. Likely going to be just a day sail Sunday... I'll take it.

Yep, be safe. I took my dodger down last night.
I replaced my raw water pump impeller. An oil change and rigging inspection is the last routine maintenance before my personal kick-off of sailing.

Looks like a pretty tight wind gradient
Not diminishing till Sunday

Hope everyone's boat fairs well with the wind going on right now. Saw it's around 45mph by the house, maybe 35 in Deale, where the boat sits. Oh, and at 6am, haven't had power in a couple hours.

Re: 2018 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

My cove is a hurricane hole. Also, the wind is from the north so I think all the wind will blow out and my boat will settle into the mud below the docks which will break the wind even further. All the canvas is off and the furler is secure.

I'll check on her in a couple hours.

Schools and Fed gov't in DC is closed today. For friggin' wind.

It'll be interesting to see how much water gets blown out of the river - hopefully not as bad as we had earlier this year.

2.5 straight days of high, northerly winds plus full moon tides. What could go wrong?

Re: 2018 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Gratitude reported today that three boats were knocked off their blocks. Thankfully not Halcyon. At least, the email said that they contacted the boat owners and no one called me.

Best of luck everyone.
