Re: 2018 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Most from this area know DC is a former Swamp, ( not the Trump) definition. Its in a bowl and gets day upon day of hot sultry weather and conditions with no air movement. People stay away during these months. Stifling conditions

As far as bugs.....no state has more in numbers or variety. or bigger bugs than Florida. September are when the mature bugs are around.
Swamps (DC) and marshes like the Delaware River has are places to avoid. The Chespeake has no more bugs than any other area.

By the way the state bird of New Jersey is the Greenhead Fly. You can easily identify them as they take a pound of flesh and are much larger than black flies or house flies.

Spent the day dodging tress,

Anchored in Worton Creek about 6 p.m., went through one hell of a thunder storm. Lost the GPS off Aberdeen PG, think they may have been testing some jamming gear. They did something like that a few years ago.

Tomorrow South River.

Gary, looks like you'll enjoy relatively mild temperatures. 60's in the mornings and 70's for highs. Saturday might make it to the mid 80's.
Isolated t-showers on Saturday, showers Sunday a.m.

Today the sun is out, the birds are signing, the floating trees are down river, and the bugs are gone.

What a great day!

How far north are you ultimately going?

Don't know. I don't have a plan as that results in a schedule, which always becomes an issue. After DC I'm going up and through the C&D then up the coast North till it's time to turn back around to head back South about the beginning of Sept.

I like your non-plan.
