Boater missing Kent Is-HHS

I can't believe no one has posted this one yet.

There is clearly more to this story than thus far revealed. This is either the drunkest boater of the year or straight up foul play.

Yeah, the boat owner went below "for about an hour?" That strikes me as odd.

The guy could have gone over as many as five miles from shore in that area. RIP.

Why could it be foul play?
Chesapeake is a large body of water. If one is going from Baltimore to Norfolk of course you need watches.

People can say they want freedom, but offer them the keys to what chains them, a map to where they want to go

And they'll turn it down for the cell they know

The implication of story is that they were traveling from Kent Narrows to Herring Bay. That's 20 nm, an hour or so in a power boat. The new boat owner spent the entire trip below decks? Okay...

I was out sailing in that general area yesterday at around the same time. About 8 knots of wind, not much wave action, and water temps in the mid 70's.

Because they were not going from Baltimore to Norfolk on.a sailboat which would require crew watches, they were going from Eastern Bay to Herrington Harbor on a power boat, which as pointed out would be an hour or so. This is a trip I’ve made under sail too many times to count so I’m very familiar with the area. Secondly, someone went overboard with no one noticing for an hour or more in broad daylight.

If you think that could happen to anyone, I’m glad I’ll never be on a vessel underway with you.

The article says there were 25 knot winds and 4 to 5 foot seas at that time but then again when I lost the drive belt on my motorcycle on the highway and had to spend some time waiting for a tow truck the report said police were dispatched because a nude elderly woman was wandering around on the roadside at my exact location instead of a flat bed was dispatched to retrieve a disable motorcycle - so much for accuracy in official and news reports.

When the police showed up they asked me how long I had been there with the Road Rangers and it had been since the time the report was made. Perhaps someone thought the report of a naked woman would get me quicker assistance from the police however they were already about 3 hours late.
