Delivery Captain wanted Treasure Island to Crystal River

Looking to purchase an 1971 Ericson 29 from an old friend. His family has owned the boat for a long time and it needs some TLC. I’ve sailed as crew on the boat a few times but it has been years. I would consider paying for someone who has maybe done the trip before and can “show me the ropes”. The engine was removed but it does has a 9.9 Tohatsu outboard.

Not sure what the going rate is, but It would help to have someone knowledgeable onboard.

His family wants the boat off the dock by June 1st so I’ve got a month to figure out how to get it to crystal river.

Re: Delivery Captain wanted Treasure Island to Crystal River

Treasure Island just south of Baltimore to Crystal River north of Tampa? Google map has the distance as a straight shot almost 900 miles. That does not include the distance from Jacksonville to Port St. Lucie inorder to go across Lake Okeechobee then north to Crystal River. Let's say that distance is 500 miles, total trip 1400 miles. 1400 miles by water traveling around 7 mph for 10 hours a day in the ICW (don't do the ICW at night, you will run aground) gives 70 miles per day for 20 days baring no break downs. I think delivery captains get somewhere around $300 to $500 a day for a total of $6000 to $10,000 captain charge. Too high? Might be cheaper to truck the boat over the highway. What is an 1971 Ericson 29 with no onboard engine that needs TLC worth now a days? Good luck and let us know how this works out.

I had no idea there was another treasure island! Lol it’s a short distance up the west coast of Florida. Weighing options for transportation because the boat had been neglected for some time. But the outboard and rolling furler alone are worth more than I’m paying for the boat.
It’s about 100 miles

As a retired delivery skipper, the only place I look for a delivery skipper is with a well known local yacht broker. They always have a stable of qualified, capable and trustworthy delivery skippers available for their own customers and certainly don't mind helping them getting work when they don't need them.

Yep. Getting a delivery skipper you will never learn anything.
But with 2 friends it will be a great trip and *You* will be skipper.

People can say they want freedom, but offer them the keys to what chains them, a map to where they want to go

And they'll turn it down for the cell they know

Not to mention save a little $$$$. Going down again next week to do some cleaning and make sure the Nav lights are functional etc. basically going over the list of requirements from a captain who has quoted me $500.
