Anybody live aboard in Brisbane, Australia?

Hello all, I am relatively new to Sail-Net, and hope that I can be a regular on here! I will be moving from the US to Australia (Brisbane) in April this year. I am hoping to live aboard while going to school in Brisbane (University of Queensland).

Does anybody here currently live aboard in Brisbane? If so, do you know of any good marinas or sailing clubs?

Thanks to anyone who may be able to help!

Moving to Brisbane, Australia

Hello all,

I'll be moving to Brisbane in April. Would love to get in touch with some of the local sailors. I'm moving from the US.

I've thought about live aboard as an option!

Biologist, I've merged this into one thread. No need for the two.

Re: Anybody live aboard in Brisbane, Australia?

Not all that many Australian SailNutters and I'm not sure if we currently have any Brisbane liveaboards active in the forum. Of those who do live up that way my memory says they mainly, if not exclusively, keep their boats down on or near the bay. I'd also think that being a bit closer to the coast might make life more bearable than being stuck up the river. From memory, and this may well have changed since, the only moorings on the Brisbane River are piles. Not even sure if there are any city marinas. Wake from passing traffic and lack of seabreeze would hold against the river.

Anywho, best of luck with it all, hope you enjoy life in the Land of Oz and welcome to SailNet.

Re: Anybody live aboard in Brisbane, Australia?

Oh well, that show how much I (don't) know. Looking at Google Earth there are two marinas that I can see on the river itself. One just near the Eagle Farm bridge and the other at the approach to Storey Bridge. Fair few sailing boats anchored above Eagle Farm and moored fore and aft to piles up past the Storey Bridge. Most of the boats on the marinas appear to be power and the one near Storey Bridge may be private berths for the Dockside apartment complex. Not sure I'm afraid.

Nonetheless if I had to choose I'd still rather be down on the bay where there is a large marina at Manly and put up with the longer travel time to the University.

(note that I'm in Sydney)

Manly and Scarborough marinas are your best bet for liveaboard I think within Brisbane.

Thanks so much for the help! I agree closer to the coast would be ideal!
