Clearwater/tampa to Mobile Feb 2017

I have recently purchased a 1987 model 30 Catalina that is currently located in Tarpon Springs Fl. I plan on spending a couple of weekends gettting to know the boat before leaving out for Mobile Al. I have played around in Mobile bay on some larger boats but never jetted out like this before. Any advice on crossing this time of year? Maybe mid Jan or early Feb. From Trpon Springs to Panama City is approx 250 miles and straight to Mobile is 375.

I have done that trip in Jan and Feb a couple of times, and I wouldn't do it again at that time. During those months, you will encounter often very heavy winds from the northwest. It is doable, but really uncomfortable. It works out that about 2 to 3 days a week the winds will be on your bow. Best after mid to end of March and into April.

You should be able to see ahead by quite a few days any potential cold fronts dropping down from the north.

Edit:
You would now be running downwind in 10-15kts with 2-3'ers following.
Current prob favorable
A nice delivery....

Did it solo last year about this time. Yes did have to stay over a few days in a marina as a front went by, but that is part of sailing isn't it, visiting odd places unexpectedly?
I anchored off shore most nights. Be sure to have updated charts as that side of Florida is shallow and the channels to the ports are narrow.
