Month 10 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

We continue our evil cruising ways. This past month we traveled from St Augustine FL to Brunswick GA. We went further than that as we went North and came back down. Weren’t in any hurry and just wandered around traveling on the ICW and outside

We spent our stopped time on moorings when at a town and on anchor if not.

The raw water strainer for the generator clogged up and that took out the impeller and exhaust hose. Since it is so hot we needed that generator for the air conditioning and next day shipped the parts.

We did a lot of cheap to free sightseeing, which probably involved a meal out during it. We also got a car and went sightseeing some staying in motels etc. Since I know everyone reads these with the “I can do it for less” I have put all the car traveling/motel type sightseeing into a separate category.

Entertainment expenses were for some Kindle books, movies, mini golf and whatever if it didn’t involve a rental car to go to (if it was a local bus ride to get to it, it is in entertainment).

The total was $ 3,525.35, which breaks down as follows:

Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries - $ 879.87
Boat upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 213.61
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 229.35 (got to feed that generator)
Dining out - $ 743.57
Entertainment - $ 103.43
Sightseeing - $ 760.49
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 233.78
Bank Fees – ($ 42.04)
Marina - $ 329.70
Medical - $ 22.27
Transportation - $ 51.32

Don't blow air up my rear, be useful and blow it at the sails!

It looks like your cruising might be getting expensive! I supposed it's all based on the individuals budget or maybe residue income while floating about...I admire your adventure!

I don't know you, of course, but you don't look like a cheap date...
In jest....

If I could be bothered looking up each of your months I think they have all be spot on $3500 except for one at $5k, if I remember correctly.

So no matter what anyone's thoughts were/are the actuality is beginning to become apparent. Thus is the whole idea of spreadsheeting the Actual costs.

It's looking good, Don.

People can say they want freedom, but offer them the keys to what chains them, a map to where they want to go,
And they'll turn it down for the cell they know

I don't understand how $3500/mo is expensive to live, never mind ONLY $3500/mo to 'live the dream'.

Maybe if you were born in sub sahara Africa .... but $3500/mo in the US, cheap retirement.

I'd agree, but I'll have to have a mortgage on my boat if it's worthy of living on full time with my wife. I'd just assume go now and get what I can afford and have fun, but spouse wants a very large cat to the tune of $300k. I"ll keep working I guess. Hope I don't die before the dream becomes reality.

Yep. Try renting some accommodation somewhere that's not your fixed home.

We are living a dream retirement in exotic places for a fraction of the cost of land based retirees.
