Re: Jacksonville to Titusville

Should I hire a captain to go with us on this trip? Also what can one expect to pay for such a service on average?

The ICW is cake, imo.
Enjoy driving/motoring the boat, anchoring, cooking and drinks w/your gal...should be fun and easy.
Know the rules of the road, stay inside the markers (prob still touch here and there with 4.2 but not ground) and plan ahead.
An adventure....with BoatUS not too far away...

Re: Jacksonville to Titusville

You don't need no stinkin captain to run the ditch, IMO. How big is this boat? How long have you owned her and how many hours have you been under way with her? What is her condition?
I don't recall having any troubles with bridges and currents in that part of the ICW. The problems I had were wakes from power boats and one dog leg where I touched bottom at Fort Matanzas National Monument.

IIRC, that's by Marineland.
So dangerous I encountered a family headed north in a 20' lake pontoon boat...

For planning your trip I would highly recommend Waterway Guide...

https://www.waterwayguide.com/explor...10&mode=marina

It's hard to beat all the tools they give you in one app.

Re: Jacksonville to Titusville

Have done the trip a number of times - some a bit offshore others all ICW - a bit depends on where you leave from in Jax - takes a good 6 hours to get from Ortega River area to ICW if you have to fight the tides a bit, you could head offshore from there and come back in at ST Augustine or Daytona - but if you use the ICW - position yourself to get to St Augustine the first day - tie up downtown , then next day get to Daytona or New Smyrna Beach - a number of marinas - 3rd day you should be in Titusville. The longest day would be getting from Jacksonville to St Augustine if you are leaving from south of downtown Jax.

Re: Jacksonville to Titusville

Slip space can be a bit limited this time of year. You might want to call ahead and reserve a spot, along with asking about the tide and the direction the slip faces.

Double check every bascule bridge, the name of the road it services and the schedule....doesn't always match the charts and they are sometimes difficult to read.
