Re: Tough Coastal Passage

Patrick - very nice! Are you guys using PredictWind? If so, do you find one model more accurate than another?

We're about to head to Hawaii and then up north. Be first passages with PredictWind.

Re: Tough Coastal Passage

We have used PredictWind, along with IridiumGo, to cross the Indian Ocean and now for working down the African coast. Long ago I had crossed the Indian Ocean and at that time one just went and dealt with whatever weather happened that day. Amazing how much easier it is to duck and weave around weather systems today. What has been very helpful is the ability to get ocean current information and use those currents to advantage rather than just throwing the dice. The European weather model is, far more often, the most accurate. This is what helps to make PredictWind so valuable. The European model is not free and cost the subscriber, like PredictWind, a lot of money to be able to share. Your Hawaii passage will be much easier with daily weather info. Will you get the download through IridiumGo or the SSB?

Iridium Go. SSB/pactor is backup. We're looking forward to trying it out. Heading out in a few days.

Sounds like a fun trip. Will you be posting anywhere so we can follow?
