A free boat.

My son got his hands on a free yacht, a foxhound 24. She had been waiting for two years on the wharf when he got her. The water stood 20 cm in her hull. But he saw her fine lines and decided to restore her (a bit). It is a no-budget boat, he is a student. But he can use all the boat related stuff I collected in 40 years.

I filmed it and what started as a funny videoclip ended a bit melancholic, seeing him sailing away (ish).

It is a long clip, 9 min. But you can blame Johann Strauss for that, he composed the Blue Danube and made it 9 minutes.

Enjoy!

Re: A free boat.

pass on my congratulations to your son. Enjoyed the video. Free/cheap boats are a good way to learn. Looks like he's learning some good skills to take care of it himself. Good seeing boats get saved.

Safe travels.

Re: A free boat.

To echo the above, grats to him on his choice. I'm not of the mind that "there's no such thing as a free boat". Sure, there might need to be an investment, sure, you don't get a free 50k cruiser that is in perfect shape, and all that. But for those willing to undertake a learning experience, there's nothing wrong with the challenge. My first sailboat was a free boat. I put a little bit into it, not to restore, but to get up and running and learn and experience things. Good on him for doing the same.

Nice job. I would have taken one look and run. Still amazed the engine ran.

Well, it is a Lister Petter 6 mini, I guess it runs just out of habit.

Still need to adjust the valves, replace the impeller and clean up the watercooling.

Re: A free boat.

Thoroughly liked the video. I'm sure a lot that was done wasn't covered but thats o.k. would be too long.
