Capes of Africa part 2

I normally gloss over or shy away from the debate about using harnesses and tethers while working on deck in settled weather. Too many people think their own fears and methods need to be copied by all other sailors. Enough of that. Each to his own when it comes to working on deck, solo. I address the topic head on. Lightening strikes can be amazingly dangerous things. In 44 years, our boat has never been hit by lightening. It is only speculation why this has been.

I don't think many wear a tether in settled weather, but it's indisputable that they are safer. Working successfully without a net is a success, only until it isn't.

Unless lifelines have netting and one falls low, I don't think they are worth much. While I've never fallen over (fingers crossed), my scariest moments have come, when the deck fell out beneath me or pitched and tried to catapult me.

I thought the video suggested you never use a tether, regardless of weather. Perhaps I heard it wrong. No pitcher keeps their fast ball for a lifetime. Be careful.

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
