What is it?

Found this under my Volvo 2002 diesel today. It is either (a) a piece of trash that has been lurking around and just rattled its way out to where I can see it, or (b) a cover for something that ought to be covered. It is just substantial enough that I suspect it is meant to be in there somewhere. Any ideas what it would be covering?

Thanks in advance.

The USAF said UFOs are real.

Sell this one to CNN.

That looks like the cap from a grease tube.

It was US Navy pilots going on about it.

I agree - the only thing that makes me wonder is that it is not threaded in any way.

Looks like the cap to a plastic tube, a lot like the cap for this tube for the pumpout adapter kits they were giving out in Seattle a couple of years ago...

It wouldn't be threaded. Slides off the end of the cartridge, cartridge goes into the grease gun where it lives until it's empty.

Maybe someone reloaded while servicing your car and set the cap on the frame where he wouldn't forget it.

Wait.../ you're talking about your volvo inboard...

That makes sense. I bet you're right. In any event, the motor has not blown up without it being wherever it might have been. Thanks.

Well, in that case, who knows what catastrophe might befall if you were to put it back on if it -were- from the motor?
