differences between Volvo MD17c and MD17d ?

I have a Volvo MD17c and it is running fine. I have owned it for 27 years.
I have been offered a Volvo MD17d for spare parts and not for very much ( 500 ). It has 1500 hours on it (claimed). That's not much in this game.
I have looked at the pictures of the two motors and there are seemingly-subtle differences.
The C model has decompression levers, the D does not.
The D also has a different set-up for the cylinder-head injectors.
The starter motors look the same, the gearbox looks the same, the injection pump looks the same.
The fuel filter arrangement is different but I could live with that.
I trust that crank and pistons are the same.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: differences between Volvo MD17c and MD17d ?

Well, I went on to the web and checked part numbers.
There is a great deal of commonality between them, but there are exceptions.
Barrels, pistons and liners are all the same, gearbox the same, starter the same, water pump the same.
The injectors are different, and injector opening pressures very different, and the high pressure injection lines are different, but the injection pump looks very similar, and the injection angles are very close ( the C model is 24 - 26 deg BTDC plays 24.5 - 26.5 deg BTDC for the D model) so would probably not need to be re-set to work with the C model. The injection quantities are the same.
I don't think I can go far wrong. It is an absolute mine of spare parts methinks and elsewhere they are very expensive indeed.
The only thing "wrong" with the D model offered is that it won't shut off, and needs to be fuel-starved by some other means to stop it, but I don't think it would take me long to fix it.
