Conquistatadore,

Typically electric boat conversion kits start at about $5,000 and go up from there. Batteries are not included. A recent electric boat conversion I worked on was done with a DC motor, controller, throttle, motor mounts and cost about $6,200 installed. With the size sailboat you are considering (unless I am missing something) you should be able to have a running electric propulsion system in place for about the same money plus the cost of batteries.

Turn the key and go ......................

I hope this has been helpful.

electric

Electric sure looks good, but expensive!
I guess in a few years it ll be 1/4 the cost hopefully.

What kind of power do these get compared to Diesel or gas and how often do you charge the battery?
Whats the range, specially for ocean cruising?

thanx alot.

conquistatadore,

I can only speak from my own experience with my 26' electric boat. Every sailboat out there will push easier through the water; but I can cruise for 4 hours at 5+ knots with 48 volts and 60 Amps and 5KW motor. My battery packs 100 AH each and I charge them in 4-5 hours after each cruise. But sometimes they don't need a recharge every time. You would not need that much AH maybe 2 battery packs 50AH each. Depends upon your boat and its needs. My battery packs weigh in at 120lbs each. If you want I will send you pictures .... just email me a message.

Where do you sail out of your home port?
